The Move
Summer 2022
The next 6 months flew past, planning our move to Spain, saying sad farewells to our friends in Winchester and after a crazy packing time we arrived at the airport with 4 suitcases, some yoga props and the paddleboard. The rest of our trimmed down possessions were to make their way to Spain by lorry.
That summer we spent time in a largely empty house planning the changes with our builders Artes de Casares. Our Spanish was rusty, but we found our vocabulary growing by the day learning new words such as skirting boards and began to realise that there are a hundred ways to say tile in Spanish. With visitors coming and going we had a fun first summer and prepared for the building work which began in September 2022. We moved ourselves in to the Casita as the builders moved into the main house stripping it back to the bare walls and removing some of them. What had we done?!
We spent many days visiting builders’ merchants and suppliers as gradually the house began to take shape and our Spanish building vocabulary quickly expanded.
To escape the winter months and a chunk of the demolition, we took a campervan trip down the west coast of Australia whilst Artes carried on with the work and sent us regular updates and messages.
